Education

While the newly formed Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network (HNECC PHN) were building their service portfolio and establishing themselves in our region the New England Division of General Practice contracted Panacea Health Services to provide CPD in the New England region.  Panacea ran a series of CPD workshops, Small Group Learning and other education events throughout 2016-2018.
The HNECC PHN has been hosting several events over this period but from July 2018, they will be undertaking all educational activities in New England as part of their range of practice support activities and services across their footprint.

HNECC PHN notify practices and GPs of upcoming events by direct email and through social media.

Visit their website or contact the local Practice Support & Development team for more information http://www.hneccphn.com.au/education/

Our Collegiate Events

The Division has a proud history of hosting collegiate events throughout the region, whether it is to welcome a new GP to the area, to farewell a colleague in relocation or retirement or simply to get together to share a meal, enjoy an informal presentation and catch up.

The foramen magnum dinner club events, held regularly, provide a social evening for doctors and their partners, often with a guest speaker and local dining experience.

Foramen Magnum events in the last 18 months include the 2016 AGM, where our special guest speaker was Dr DB Subedi an adjunct lecturer in Peace Studies at UNE who delivered a fascinating presentation titled ‘The roles of Civil Society in Building Peace and Fostering Social Cohesion’ and prior to that, on June 17th one of our local GPs Dr Nick Martin spoke about War Surgery in Afghanistan, reflecting on his experience in the Royal Navy.

In July 2017, we enjoyed Dr Richard Scully’s insights to John Leech – the ‘First Cartoonist’, with a fascinating presentation that entertained attendees and hopefully prompted many a book purchase! The 2017 AGM event welcomed Call Clayton-Dixon and Brad Widders to speak about the revival of the Anaiwan Language in our region – a project underway in our community to ensure that this precious language is not lost.  2018 event was about Bhutan: Land of the Thunder Dragon – a marvellous presentation about this beautiful Himalayan country.
